The Art of Richard Huston

DrawPaintDraw was created to share my drawings,  paintings, collages and other works with you.  It is also my hope and desire that you will enjoy these works enough to take advantage of an opportunity to own some of them or commission a new original work just for you. By minimizing overhead, I believe that the Internet allows the artist to offer original works at a  reasonable cost and gives the buyer the opportunity to become that most wonderful of all creatures, a patron and collector.

About DrawPaintDraw

I had a friend ask me not long ago, Why I did you name your website DrawPaintDraw. I had to think for a moment because I didn’t want to be my usual flippant self.

So I explained some of my thought process. I  have a passion for drawing; I enjoy it and do it on a consistent basis. To me drawing is the most fundamental skill of any visual artist.  When you paint you draw; when you sculpt you draw; when you design scenery you draw; when you sew you draw; ad infinitum. It all begins with drawing.

I also love to paint. I enjoy playing with color and form using watercolors and inks. I’ve worked in many mediums over the years and always find painting a rewarding activity. However, I’m now finding painting to be secondary to drawing. A better way of putting it perhaps is to say painting now is more an adjunct to drawing. Increasingly the line between drawing and painting is blurring for me and I cant find where a drawing ends and a painting begins. They are beginning to flow, not always seamlessly, one into the other. My drawings now have areas that are painted and my paintings areas that are strictly drawn. I don’t think it really matters to me anymore which is which.

There is a lot of freedom in this approach. I’ve seen it in the work of others and I’m seeing it in my own work more and more.
